About

Kelly Moffitt-Hawasly

I’m a digital content strategist and lifelong storyteller shaped by curiosity and a love of human connection.

With graduate degrees in journalism and psychology, I’ve always been drawn to how stories shape understanding and how thoughtful systems can help them reach the right audiences.

With 10+ years of experience in higher education, nonprofit media, and mission-driven organizations, I specialize in shaping multichannel storytelling strategies that connect, resonate, and drive results.

Today, I am Director of Digital Content Strategy in Columbia University’s Office of Public Affairs, overseeing audience engagement, analytics, and website management for flagship platforms like Columbia News and Columbia Neighbors. I work at the intersection of strategy and story by launching editorial campaigns, building content ecosystems, and managing cross-functional teams with an audience-first mindset.

I started my career in journalism, writing and producing for outlets like StoryCorps (NPR) and St. Louis Public Radio. I carry that editorial sensibility into everything I do, helping organizations tell their stories more powerfully.

Beyond my institutional work, I also created Flyover Podcast, a newsletter celebrating audio storytelling between the coasts that grew to 2,500+ subscribers.

Teaching and mentorship are also central to my work. Whether guiding new content creators, leading workshops on digital strategy, or speaking on editorial leadership, I’m passionate about helping others grow their storytelling skills and build meaningful careers.

What drives me?
Telling stories that matter and building systems that ensure they’re heard.
